Virginia St. lane restrictions planned

Beginning Monday there will be lane restrictions on Virginia Street in the Marietta/Harmar area to allow a contractor to begin setting up platforms for a bridge painting project on the Ohio 7 overpass. This work will be performed using temporary lane closures that will be placed in the morning around 7:30 a.m. and taken down the same day around 6 p.m. Traffic will be maintained by a flagger. The restrictions are expected to last about a week.

Prom fashion show Sunday in Vienna

The Project Prom 2013 Fashion Show will be held Sunday at the Grand Pointe Hotel in Vienna, W.Va. The show, sponsored by Elizabeth Michaels Boutique, will showcase the latest fashion, makeup, and hair styles for 2013 prom. The doors open to the public at noon and the show starts at 1:30 with a dance performance from Gels Dance studio, followed by a fashion show. A prom dress will be given away, as well as gifts by some of the vendors. Local schools sell tickets to our show and keep 100 percent of the proceeds to benefit their proms.

Acrylics painting classes planned

An acrylic painting class will be taught by Debra Cain beginning at 1 p.m. Wednesday. There will be four classes. The class is open to the public and has a limited class size, so reservations should be made. The $25 fee includes instruction; participants should bring their basic art kit including acrylic primary colors, brushes and canvas board.

Ewing School pool closing for repairs

The Ewing School pool will be closed starting Monday for repairs. The re-opening date will be announced after work is complete.

Live music benefit Saturday at VFW

A live music benefit for Kyra Carpenter will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Marietta VFW Post #5108, 319 Pike St. Carpenter is a teen who has been diagnosed with leukemia. There will be a $5 cover charge. The menu will include chili and corn bread and hot dogs. There will be door prizes and a 50/50 with music by Hardriven, Band of Brothers and Rajin River. All the money raised will go to Carpenter.
