AEP’s CEO to speak locally

Pablo A. Vegas, president and CEO of AEP Ohio, is the first speaker of 2013 for the Economic Roundtable of the Ohio Valley.

Vegas will begin his stay in the Marietta area by conducting a Leadership Q&A with Marietta College students at 7 p.m., Monday, Jan. 28, in the trustees conference room.

On Tuesday, Jan. 29, Vegas will be the guest speaker for the ERT luncheon at the Parkersburg Country Club in Vienna, W.Va. The lunch will begin at noon. His talk is titled “Where AEP is Going, Pushing Technologies Forward, Keeping Rates Competitive.”

AEP Ohio serves approximately 1.44 million customers in Ohio and the northern West Virginia panhandle. Vegas has responsibility for distribution operations, safety and a wide range of customer and regulatory relationships.

Previously he was vice president and chief information officer for American Electric Power, responsible for development and support of AEP’s software applications and operation of AEP’s information technology infrastructure.

From 2008 to 2010, he was president and chief operating officer for AEP Texas, overseeing distribution operations serving more than 900,000 AEP customers in central and north Texas as well as the operating unit’s safety, customer services, marketing, communications, community affairs, governmental affairs, and regulatory functions.

Prior to this, Vegas served as director of strategic planning, working cross functionally to formulate AEP’s short and long term strategic plans. Since joining AEP in 2005, Vegas has held leadership positions in Information Technology and Finance, leading both the Corporate IT Planning and Commercial Operations IT Planning organizations.

Before joining AEP, Vegas held senior leadership positions with IBM, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Andersen Consulting. In his last position with IBM, as associate partner – communications sector, Vegas had responsibility for delivering process and technology solutions within the energy sector.

Vegas currently serves as the Vice-Chairman on the Board of Trustees for the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) in Columbus, Ohio.

The Economic Roundtable of the Ohio Valley is a non-partisan non-political educational organization that formed in 1982 as a result of collaboration between the Business and Economics Department at Marietta College and a group of business, civic and educational leaders. The object of the Economic Roundtable is to promote an interest in and to enlighten its members and others in the community on important governmental, economic, and social issues. Since its inception, the Economic Roundtable of the Ohio Valley has presented the Ohio Valley with more than 160 distinguished speakers who have enlightened and informed ERT members with their fascinating discussion on a broad scope of governmental, economic and social issues.
