Prep boys basketball: French scores 44 in Warren victory
CHILLICOTHE – Evan French was a school record-setter Friday night.
The 6-foot-3 junior sharpshooter scored 44 points as Blane Maddox-coached Warren downed host Chillicothe, 70-43, in a Southeastern Ohio Athletic League boys’ basketball game.
The previous Warren standard of 42 was held by Dennis Ward.
French was 19 of 23 from the field, which included five trifectas. He made 11 straight from the floor at one point in the contest.
French attempted and made only one freebie.
French’s performance overshadowed teammate Reece Patton, who posted a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Warren’s only other scorers in the contest were Michael Hall (4 points) and Evan Yabs (2).
The SEOAL first-place Warriors improved their record to 17-1 overall and 8-0 in the league.
Warren’s only setback this season was to Upper Arlington in December at Marietta College.
Chillicothe was paced by Zach Johnson, who tallied a team-high 13 points. Nate Rosenbauer added 10 markers, and Nolan Taylor netted nine.
Warren staked itself to a 22-18 first-quarter advantage on nine of 11 from the field.

In the second half, Warren’s defense limited Chillicothe to 14 points.
Warren is scheduled to play at Belpre at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The Warriors then will host Marietta in Vincent at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
