Habitat fundraiser continues good work

We want to encourage you to take part in the upcoming dinner to benefit Habitat for Humanity.

It’s the 13th annual event named in honor of Paul L. Callihan, a longtime member of the local Habitat board of directors. Friday’s event includes a silent auction, entertainment, dinner with catering by Cowboy Concessions, and a live auction.

Tickets for the fundraiser at the Marietta Shrine Club, 249 Pennsylvania Ave., are $30 per person, $50 per couple or $200 for a table of eight.

Organizers hope to raise enough money so that volunteers can start building another home for a family in need. We hope this year’s turnout is at least as big as last year’s crowd of 200. Around $13,000 was raised for Habitat.

The organization creates a bond with prospective home occupants who join in the construction process. It’s a proven formula for success, just like the annual dinner and auction fundraiser.

A byproduct of the publicity about the Habitat event is the awareness raised about the group’s work in the community. Habitat likes to call it “friendraising.” We agree. Habitat has a history of making our community better and improving the lives of families that move into their new homes.

We hope Habitat’s fundraiser not only continues its string of success, but also with its valuable work in the community.
