New Matamoras fracking protest draws law enforcement
About 100 people have gathered at a “fracking” waste storage site just south of New Matamoras as part of an anti-fracking protest.
Operations have been disrupted at Greenhunter Water’s hydraulic fracturing site along the Ohio River as an Athens County resident and member of Appalachia Resist!, ascended a 30-foot pole anchored to a brine truck in the process of unloading frack waste, preventing all trucks carrying frack waste from entering the site, according to the group.
Both the Washington County’s Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol have responded to the scene.
