Interstate Exchange 4-H club hosts group from Montana
The newly formed Washington County Interstate Exchange 4-H club hosted a group of 4-H’ers from Roosevelt County, Montana, in July 2012. Although they visited after the storm, July 5 through July 9, with record high temperatures, it was successful. The highlights of the exchange were sharing Camp Hervida; riding the Valley Gem; touring Hartline Dairy Farm; touring St. Marys Catholic Church (to escape the heat); shopping downtown Marietta; carriage rides; taking the ghost tour of Marietta; zip lining; and a day of fun at the Boy Scout Camp in Waterford which included swimming, canoing, kayaking, volleyball, and of course eating. In their spare time, the host families shared their home lifestyles and their 4-H experiences.
The group had many sponsors to make this visit possible. 2012 sponsors were: The 4-H Advisory Committee, Hartline Dairy Farm, Smitty’s Pizza, Giant Eagle, Uncle Dan’s Ice Cream, Workingman’s Store, Holy Smokes BBQ, Peoples Bank, Riverview Credit Union, Unique Ink, Jewelry by Design, Larry and Charlotte Kitts, Bill and Alberta Wesel, and Cathy Mourer.
Many fundraising activities have taken place and will continue to allow the Washington County group to visit Montana this summer, June 2013. Plans while in Montana include visiting an Indian Reservation as well as some cattle ranches.
The exchange program has been offered through 4-H for many years; however Washington County has not participated in over 25 years. This club is open to any 4-H’er age 14 to 18, who is in good standing with another 4-H club in Washington County.
Current members include: Nathan Bullock, son of Jeff and Angie Bullock; Emily and Hanna Lang, daughters of Dan and Cathy Lang; Sheldon McCoy, son of Mike and Martha McCoy; Maddie Treadway, daughter of Jerry and Melinda Treadway; Alicyn Tullius, daughter of Mike and Ellie Tullius; Jessie and Josie White, daughters of Jeff and Suzie White.
This program has allowed 4-H’ers to develop lasting friendships and to explore the United States of America.
