Maxine Fisher

Freda Maxine Fisher, 91, of the Beverly/Waterford area, passed away peacefully on Thursday (March 7, 2013) in her home in Waterford.

She was born June 27, 1921, in Watertown, daughter of Carl and Caro Stacy Sampson. She was a 1939 graduate of Waterford High School and a member of Beverly United Methodist Church. She loved spending time with her family, watching sports of all kinds (especially Ohio State and Cincinnati Reds), playing cards, shopping and going out to eat. Besides being a homemaker, Maxine worked for several years at Fremar’s Dress Shop in Beverly. On June 5, 1939, she married Elmer Fisher, and they were married for 57 years, until his death on Jan. 14, 1997.

She is survived by three children, Nerine Gasaway of Mogadore, Ohio, Randy Fisher and wife, Pam, of Marietta and Greg Fisher of Vincent; 10 grandchildren, Kevin (Sue) Gasaway of Tallmadge, Ohio, Kirt Gasaway of Greenville, Pa., Michael (Heather) Gasaway of Mogadore, Ohio, Lauria (David) Gallagher of Oak Park, Cal., Amanda (Ryan) Janis of Santa Monica, Cal., Chad Fisher of Marietta, Christina Bertram of Columbus, Ohio, Eric Bertram of Marietta and Tyler and Maria Fisher and their mother, Melinda Vaughn of Beverly; eight great-grandchildren, Corrine, Aaron, Clay, Delany, Cory, Dylan, Brody and Lily Grace; a sister in-law, Jean Sampson of Stow, Ohio; and four nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Wayne Sampson; a son-in-law, David Gasaway; and a niece, Jill Sampson Crater.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Amedisys Hospice, especially to Amy Labarre and Kathy Porter for their compassion and guidance over this difficult time.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly with Pastor Jeff Corbett officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday. Burial will be in Waterford Cemetery. Online condolences may be made by visiting
