William E. ‘Bill’ Himmeger
William E. “Bill” Himmeger, 67, of St. Marys, W.Va., passed away Saturday (April 20, 2013) at his residence.
He was born Feb. 28, 1946, in Monongahela, Pa., a son “Pat” Himmeger of St. Marys, W.Va., and the late Sam Himmeger. He was a 1964 graduate of St. Marys High School, where he was very active in the school band, he attended West Liberty College and the Washington County Technical College, and he was retired from the Ormet Corporation after 36 years, retiring Oct. 31, 2002. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, and a member of AMVETS Post 40. He had been a Boy Scout leader with Troop 224 of Newport, Ohio, for 29 years. He was a past president of the Frontier Band Association and helped coach his children in sports. He loved living on the farm, his passion was woodworking, and had been a vendor and attended various craft shows. He even helped teach woodworking at the Cutler School. He was active in the St. Marys Community Band.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Gretchen Hall Himmeger; two children, Brenda Himmeger and Ben Himmeger, both of Newport, Ohio; three grandchildren, Cody Wise, Brody Wise, and Emily Wise; two sisters, Marge (Steve) Knight of St. Marys, W.Va., and Cheryl (John) Harbour of Belmont, W.Va.; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, an uncle, and cousins.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Taylor Himmeger.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday (April 24, 2013) at Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, W.Va., with Pastor Pam Shuman officiating. Interment will be in Eastlawn Memorial Park, Reno, Ohio, with military graveside rites. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
