Ohio 7 crash victims identified; investigation continues
A man and a woman have been identified as the victims of a fatal crash on Ohio 7 this morning.
Dwight A. Knapp, 40, of 827 Second St., Marietta, was driving a 1988 Mack truck owned by Marietta-based William Ford Trucking when it began swerving off the road, eventually going over a guardrail and embankment near the entrance to Solvay Advanced Polymers’ employee park, just below River Lane, said Trooper Lea Mikes, with the Marietta post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Knapp and his passenger, Chyennea Uppole, 20, of 128 Hall Road, Vincent, were pronounced dead at the scene, she said. Knapp and Uppole were family friends, Mikes said.
The crash remains under investigation. It is not known what caused Knapp to lose control of the vehicle, but alcohol and drugs are not suspected as factors, Mikes said.
A witness reported the crash at 5:37 a.m., Mikes said. It took several hours to get the truck, which was pulling a tanker full of milk, back on the road and away from the scene. Traffic in the northbound portion of Ohio 7 was reduced to one lane for much of the morning until the scene was cleared by 1 p.m.
