Applications taken for backpacks, school supplies

Washington-Morgan Community Action will be taking applications for backpacks and school supplies for children attending kindergarten to eighth grade. Applicants may apply during the week of July 15 at the agency office located at 218 Putnam St., Marietta, from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Families must be at or under 150 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines to qualify.

Applicants must bring: proof of household income for 30 days, proof of county residency, name of school attending in the fall, grade the child will attend, proof of child’s age (birth certificate, medical card with birth date or shot records) and Social Security number of all members of the household.

Beverly Eagles plan steak fry Saturday

The Beverly Eagles will hold a steak fry at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The cost is $11. For carry out, call 984-4733.

Bloodmobile stop

on Mill Creek Road

The Bloodmobile will be set up at the Marietta First Church of the Nazarene from 5 to 8 p.m. July 17. The church is located at 100 Mill Creek Road.

Catfish tournament in Williamstown

A catfish tournament will be held July 19 and 20 at the Williamstown boat ramp. Registration is from 4 to 6 p.m. July 19, with check-in at 10 a.m. July 20. The cost is $40 for a two-man team or $25 for one person. The first-place prize is 25 percent of the entry fees. There will also be a children’s tournaments for children 8 and younger at a cost of $5 per entry.

L-A Fire and Rescue social July 20

The L-A Fire and Rescue Association will hold an ice cream social beginning at 4 p.m. July 20. There will be hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, Coney dogs, sloppy joes, cole slaw, drinks, desserts and McKitrick’s homemade ice cream. There will also be a raffle, country store, bingo, games for children and a hay ride.

Anyone who would like to make a cake or pie donation, or a donation to the Country Store, can call Kay Worstell at 984-2412. Pies or cakes should be dropped off by noon July 20.
