MC police chief moving to S.C.

Marietta College Police Department Chief Tom Saccenti is resigning to take the same position at Furman University in Greenville, S.C.

“We are sorry to see Tom leave Marietta College, but we are very appreciative of the contributions he has made to the Marietta College community during his time as chief,” said Bob Pastoor, vice president for student life. “Chief Saccenti has provided outstanding leadership and has raised the quality to the department through training and higher expectations. We wish him well in his new position.”

Pastoor said Sgt. Jim Weaver will serve as interim chief.

Saccenti’s final day at Marietta is July 21 and he is scheduled to begin his new duties on July 22. He has been Marietta’s police chief since Aug. 30, 2010. Before joining Marietta, Saccenti was the director of campus safety at Trine University in Angola, Ind., since 2008. He has also worked as the chief of police for the Pioneer (Ohio) Police Department from 2007-09, and as a detective for the Castalia (Ohio) Police Department from 2002-07.
