Phillips to speak at Marietta VFW

Ohio Rep. Debbie Phillips, D-Albany, will be the guest speaker at the July 25 meeting of the Washington County Democratic Women’s Action Committee. Phillips will be discussing the new state budget and how various aspects of it will affect local residents. The group will meet at the VFW on Pike Street in Marietta at 11:30 a.m. for lunch. The meeting will begin promptly at noon.

Ohio 339 to close for bridge beam repair

Ohio 339 will be closed Thursday and Friday at the section below the U.S. 50 overpass to allow crews to begin work on the U.S. 50 bridge beam that was hit a few weeks ago. The detour is U.S. 50 to Ohio 550 to Ohio 7 back to Ohio 339.

Lowell committee to hold special meeting

There will be a special meeting of the Village of Lowell City Council finance committee at 7 p.m. today in the village offices.

Fiscal report ready for Frontier schools

The combined financial report of the Frontier Local Schools Board of Education for the fiscal year that ended June 30 has been completed and is available for review in the treasurer’s office.

MHS Class of 1950 to hold luncheon

The Marietta High School Class of 1950 regular monthly luncheon will be held at noon July 24 at VFW Post 5108 on Pike Street in Marietta. A class reunion will take place at 6 p.m. Aug. 2 at DaVinci’s in Williamstown. Dress is informal. There will be a cash bar. There will also be a dinner at 6 p.m. Aug. 3 at the Marietta Country Club. Reservations are required.

Christmas in July event in Barlow

The Barlow Area Christmas in the Village will hold a Christmas in July event Friday and Saturday. Bargains will be offered at The Village Crafts & Decor in Little Hocking, Dunham Square on Ohio 339, Hickory Grove Market, the Silver Moon Diner, White Oak Pharmacy and Seamans General Store. At the Barlow Library, there be 20 vendors and a tag sale from 9 to 3 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Fearing trustees plan special meeting

The Fearing Township Trustees will hold a special meeting at 8 p.m. July 24 at the township office in Stanleyville. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the upcoming fire levy and the culvert on Lynch Church Road.
