Morning Rotary hosts benefit cruise

The Marietta Morning Rotary Club is hosting the 2013 Valley Gem Cruise & Charity Auction to benefit local youth reading programs. The two hour cruise will take place Sept. 28 from 8 to 10 p.m. on the Valley Gem sternwheeler. In addition to the silent and live auctions there will be hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Native Wildflower Walk on Aug. 27

A “Fall Native Wildflower Walk” will be held at the Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge at 7 p.m. Aug. 27. The walk will depart from the refuge visitor center, located at 3982 Waverly Road in Williamstown. This walk will follow the refuge trails while participants learn how to identify native wildflowers. Master Naturalist Emily Grafton will lead the walk.

Presbyterian Church offers free lunch

First Presbyterian Church of Marietta is offering a free lunch for the community from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 27. The church is located on the corner of Wooster and Fourth streets with the entrance off Wooster Street.

Back to School rally today at Waterford

A Meet Your Teacher/Back To School Rally will be held at 6 p.m. today at Waterford Elementary School. Students can meet their teachers, go to their homerooms, drop off school supplies and have refreshments in the cafeteria. The rally starts at 6:45 in the Cooper Annex.

Thrift store special at Vincent site

The thrift store of the Western Washington County Food Pantry, 18 High St., Vincent, will hold a $2-a-bag sale through Aug. 29. Hours are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and 1 to 4 p.m. and 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
