Charles Harold Ingraham

Charles Harold Ingraham, Phd., 89, died on Aug. 19, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on a Washington County farm (Newport Pike) near Marietta. Dr. Ingraham was the son of C.H. (Charley) and Clara Whitney Ingraham.

He was a 1942 graduate of Marietta High School. He was an active 4-H club member and advisor and a FFA member. Dr. Ingraham received his BS, masters, and doctorate degrees from The Ohio State University. He was an Agricultural Economist and Professor Emeritus, at OSU with appointment in teaching, research, and extension. He was County Agricultural Agent in Hamilton and Hocking counties, State Extension Livestock Marketing Specialist 1957 to 1964 and 1964 to 1980 State Extension Business Management Specialist at OSU.

Following his retirement from OSU in 1980, he was associated with the College of Tropical Agriculture, University of Hawaii for 13 years. He organized the Hawaii Landscape Industry Council and the Hawaii OSU Alumni Club. As OSU Livestock Marketing Specialist, he planned, organized, and implemented the, “Ohio Certified” feeder calf marketing program, State Fair junior fair steer sale and taught college and Extension classes on non-profit corporations, marketing, and business management, director training and salesmanship. He represented U.S. Agricultural Cooperatives on several USDA and IRS committees. He was a director of several organizations including the National Council of Cooperatives, American Institute of Cooperatives and Ohio 4-H Foundation. In 2000 he was inducted into the Ohio Agricultural Hall of Fame.

He received much recognition for his contribution to Agriculture such as; Distinguished Service to Ohio Agriculture from Gov. James Rhodes, Ohio Grain and Feed Dealers, COBA/ Select Sires., Ohio Rural Electric Cooperatives, Ohio Farmer’s Inc., Ohio Council of Farmer Cooperatives and Ohio Farm Bureau. Received National Outstanding Teachers Award from; National Council of Cooperatives, Outstanding Faculty Award by Towers Agriculture Honor Society at OSU, Distinguished Alumni Award from the College of Agriculture, OSU, and Washington County 4-H Clubs. Honorary state Future Farmer Degree. Two Commendations by the Ohio Senate and two commendations by the Ohio House of Representatives for Outstanding Service to Ohio Agriculture. Agriculture Award, Marietta Chamber of Commerce & Washington County Council of Cooperatives. A life member of The National County Agents Assoc, OSU Faculty Club, a member of American Legion Post 64, University F&M Lodge #0631 and Boulevard Presbyterian Church. Honorary Memberships; Epsilon Sigma Phi, Gamma Sigma Delta, The Honor Society of Agriculture; Alpha Zeta; Delta Theta Sigma; Alpha Gamma Rho; Alpha Gamma Sigma and Kentucky Colonel. Past President, Benjamin Franklin Chapter SAR.

During World War II, he served with the Company K, The Ohio State guard and later the U.S Army as Regimental Communications Officer and CO of Headquarters Company, 342nd Infantry Regiment, 86th Division in the Philippines.

He was preceded in death by wives, Josephine Dunkle, Dec. 26, 1994, and Edith Warner Andrews, March 13, 2000; son, Bruce, April 8, 2013; brother, Whitney, April 7 1978; and sister, Pauline Smith April 26, 2011.

He is survived by son, Ted (Phoebe) Ingraham, Beavercreek, Ohio; daughter, Charlotte (Doug) Roark, Delaware, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Ingraham, Loudon, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Stacy, Brad (Melanie), Elizabeth, Christine Ingraham and Stephanie (Brandon) Marrs; one great-granddaughter, Maysiena Marrs; step-grandchildren, Nick Nehnring, Nelly (Matt) DeVault; step-great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Elizabeth, and Rebekah DeVault; sister, Kathryn Bowen of Lewisville, Ohio; sister-in-law, Sarah Alice Warner, Delaware, Ohio and brother-in-law, Joy Warner, Ardmore, Tenn.

Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, also from 9 to 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 23, 2013 at the Schoedinger Northwest Chapel,1740 Zollinger Road, where the funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. after visitation on Friday. Rev. William Saunders and Cindy McKay officiating. A Graveside Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23, 2013 at Valley Cemetery, 27880 St. Rt. 7, Marietta 45750.
