Queen Genevieve candidates
The 2013 Queen Genevieve candidates:
Taylor DeBee is the 19-year-old daughter of David and Gena DeBee of Alliance, Ohio. A 2012 graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School, she is attending Marietta College where she is pursuing a petroleum engineering degree.
Her honors include the National Wild Turkey Federation Scholarship, the Dorman-Baxter Scholarship and the Charles Sumner Harrison Award. She is involved in the American Red Cross, St. Jude’s Research Center, the American Cancer Society, Habitat for Humanity, Sigma Kappa Women’s Fraternity and the McDonough Leadership Program.
Her goal is to graduate in 2016 with a bachelor’s of science degree in petroleum engineering, along with a certificate in leadership studies. Her ultimate goal is to teach.
Holly Emge is the 21-year-old daughter of Mike and Jan Emge of Marietta. A 2010 graduate of Warren High School, she will be attending West Virginia University at Parkersburg and pursuing a degree in elementary education.
Her honors include the President’s List and Dean’s List at Washington State Community College, inducted into Alpha Rho Gamma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, received Alpha Rho Gamma Scholarship fall semester and the WSCC Scholarship for the Queen Genevieve Pageant. She is involved with the Humane Society of the Mid-Ohio Valley, Relay for Life and Job’s Daughters International.
Her goal is to graduate with her master’s degree in elementary education and teach kindergarten through third grade students.
Emily Mason is the 18-year-old daughter of Brad and Peggy Mason from Lowell, Ohio. She is a 2012 graduate of Marietta High School and is attending Marietta College where she is pursuing a degree in early childhood education.
Her honors include Marietta College’s Dean’s Scholarship, Washington Electric Cooperative Scholarship, 4-H State/National Camp Scholarships, Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Conference and Marietta College Dean’s High Honor List. She is involved with Washington County Junior Fair Board, 4-H Camp Counselor, HOBY and for Carteens 4-H Club.
Her goal is to have a successful career, a happy family and to give back to her community.
Rachael McGoron is the 19-year-old daughter of Paul and Leslie McGoron of Marietta. A 2012 graduate of Marietta High School, she is attending Ohio University where she is majoring in biological science.
Her honors include Dean’s List at Washington State Community College and receiving Academic Excellence at Ohio University. She is involved with the international medical fraternity Phi Delta Epsilon at O.U., National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Relay for Life and St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Her goal is to become a doctor and help in the lives of others.
Kayla Rutherford is the 20-year-old daughter of Mary Ann Fallon and Robert Rutherford of Marietta. She is a 2011 graduate of Warren High School and is attending Ohio University where she is majoring in journalism.
Her honors include the Dean’s List, Phi Theta Kappa member invitation and Gateway Scholarship from O.U. She is involved with Habitat for Humanity, Peer Mentor, Nelsonville Music Fest and Last Chance Corral.
Her goal is to travel, meet new people, experience new cultures and inspire people through her journalism.
Mercedes Trescott is the 19-year-old daughter of Heidy-Trescott Hall of Marietta. A 2012 graduate of Warren High School, she is attending Washington State Community College and pursuing a business administration transfer major.
Her honors include having her photography presented at the Parkersburg Art Center and receiving the rising artist award. She is involved in the American Juvenile Lupus Foundation, the American Cancer Society, the Gospel Ministries Food Pantry and the Marietta Memorial Outpatient Rehab Center.
Her goal is to transfer from WSCC to Ohio University and receive a bachelor’s degree in business, with plans to open a prom and bridal boutique in Marietta.
