Wildlife refuge will hold ‘Insect Safari’

The Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge will hold an “Insect Safari” for children ages 6 to 15 at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Visitor Center located at 3982 Waverly Road in Williamstown. The program will include a hands-on insect hike, games and a craft. The program is free and approximately two hours long. Reserve a spot by calling (304) 375-2923, Ext. 117. This is a family activity and parents or guardians are required to be present. In the event of inclement weather, call or check the refuge Facebook page to find out if the program is canceled.

Tiger Navy ceremony for two new shells

The Marietta High School Tiger Navy is kicking off the start of its 50th year of rowing with a christening and naming ceremony of two brand new shells. The celebration will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Carl L. Broughton high school boathouse, 814 Gilman Ave., Marietta. Current rowers, parents, Tiger Navy alumni and everyone in the community is invited to participate.

Artists gallery plans annual studio tour

The Riverside Artists Gallery will have the second annual Artist Studio Tour from noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 22. The tour is self-guided and includes four artist’s studios and the gallery to see 10 different artists demonstrating their art. Tickets with maps are available in advance for $8 at the Riverside Artists Gallery and Parkersburg Art Center and at any studio location the day of the tour for $10. Refreshments will be served at Riverside Artists Gallery, 219 Second St., Marietta.

St. Luke’s Lutheran plans give-away day

St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 401 Scammel St., Marietta, will have its 12th annual Community Give-Away Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 27. The congregation will be donating slightly used items to be given away for free to those in the community in need. Items include toys, household goods, clothes, books, shoes, etc.
