BrAva 5K supports fight against childhood cancer
This weekend, the third annual BrAva 5K/Family Fun Day will be held in Devola’s Masonic Park in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness month, which is in September.
The BrAva organization represents two strong local families who have been through trials no family should have to face and gives hope to those facing those struggles now.
The event gives everyone in the community a chance to help.
Proceeds from the Fun Day and race are being divided between CureSearch, which funds research specifically aimed at children’s cancer, and providing financial assistance to three local families whose children have been diagnosed with cancer.
The day also honors survivors and those who have lost their battle to cancer, including Ava Nichols, half of the BrAva name, who died at age 6. Bridget Crock, the other inspiration for the organization, survived childhood cancer and is healthy and thriving.
In our own community and across the nation, there are too many families that represent both of those scenarios.
Groups like BrAva are vital because they bring awareness to the fight against childhood cancer as well as bring in donations that can fund research.
We hope the community turns out Saturday to attend this important event.
