Post 389 poker run, chili cook-off Sat.
The Beverly American Legion Post 389 family is hosting a poker run and chili cook-off Saturday. The poker run begins at 11 a.m. and the cook-off begins at 4 p.m. with entry forms at Wainwright’s Jewelry. Bands including Jason Allwood Band and Close Enuff will perform and there will be big screen TVs for the Ohio State Buckeye game beginning at 8 p.m. Ohio 60 will be closed for traffic. Food includes BBQ spit roasted chicken dinners, sloppy joes, Coney dogs and adult beverages. There will be cornhole and a football toss for children. Proceeds benefit the R.I.F. (Reading Is Fundamental), local scholarships and veteran service programs such as Operation Comfort Warrior.
Halloween Overnight at The Castle
The Castle’s Halloween Overnight will be held from 5 p.m. Oct. 5 to 8:30 a.m. Oct. 6. Children in grades 3-5 can participate in a special Victorian Gothic Halloween with spooky stories, crafts, ghost tour, pumpkin carving and more. Neil Diamond music at the Lafayette
The music of Neil Diamond will shine through the Lafayette Hotel’s Sternwheel Ballroom on Oct. 18 as Cleveland’s The Diamond Project Band pays tribute to the singer-songwriter. Dinner is at 6 p.m. and the show is at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available online at lafayettehotel.eventbrite.com

The Village of Beverly committee meetings for October will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The regular council meeting will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 9. The Board of Public Affairs will meet at 5 p.m. Oct. 16. All meetings will be at the village office, 919 Mitchell Ave.
