John Andrew Schaad
John Andrew Schaad, 33, of Galena, Ohio, was welcomed into God’s loving arms at 4:56 p.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 8, 2013), after receiving care at The Ohio State University Medical Center. John P. and Annette Schaad, of Stockport, became the proud parents of John Andrew, their first child, on Aug. 4, 1980. He grew up in Morgan County hunting, fishing, and playing sports. He loved life on the farm, growing tomatoes with his family and raising animals to take to the fair.
John was a 1998 graduate of Morgan High School and received his B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering from Ohio University, where he achieved the honor of being the top civil engineering student his junior and senior years. He went on to earn his Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Upon graduating, he accepted a structural engineering position at Jezerinac Geers & Associates, Inc. in Dublin. He was proud to contribute to many important projects including: the new Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, revitalization of the Arena District, construction of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Westerville, modifications to the Honda facilities in Marysville, and the renovation of Morgan High School. John loved what he did and the people with whom he worked. His family is extremely grateful for the way this special engineering firm loved and supported John.
On Dec. 22, 2004, under the twinkling Christmas lights at the Grove in McConnelsville, John asked the love of his life to marry him, and she said “yes.” Erin Renee Morin married John on June 17, 2006, at Grace United Methodist Church in Zanesville. This was the beginning of a beautiful love story that would touch two families in a profound way. John and Erin set a beautiful example of how to appreciate the people we love and each moment that we share with them. The Schaad family would like to express their immense gratitude toward Erin, our angel, for her unceasing love for and devotion to John.
John enjoyed woodworking, traveling, and spending time with the people he loved. He especially enjoyed sharing his jet skis with family and friends, and afternoons spent with family visiting and playing games while his brother played the guitar at Grandma and Grandpa’s farm. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in McConnelsville and a supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. John’s incredible courage, patience, compassion, work ethic, selflessness, and the comfort that he was to others even in his own difficult times inspired the many people who knew and loved him.
John will be deeply missed by his wife and best friend, Erin; his parents, John P. and Annette Schaad of Stockport; his siblings: Mary Schaad of Bozeman, Mont., Katie Schaad of Burleson, Texas, and Steven Schaad of Columbus; his wife’s parents, Larry and Dee Morin of McConnelsville; sister-in-law, Erica Morin of Shelbyville, Ky.; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and good friends.
John was preceded in death by his grandparents, Stephen and Anna Mae Demchak and John F. and Margaret Schaad. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
