Donna Maxine Schweikert

Donna Maxine Schweikert, 89, of Beverly, died Friday (Dec. 13, 2013) at Muskingum Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation in Beverly.

She was born Oct. 26, 1924, in Marietta, daughter of Albert and Bertha Ball Finkel. She was a loving wife, mother, grandma and Nana as well as a caring and devoted nurse to many in her community. Maxine graduated from Beverly High School in 1942, where she was president of her class all four years. She married Jack Ford Schweikert on Sept. 8, 1944 and had five children. She graduated from Bethesda School of Nursing in Zanesville, Ohio, in 1945. In 1945 during World War II she was in the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corp. at Crile General U.S. Army Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, where she nursed many brave young men who fought for our county. She was a Registered Nurse and had worked at Marietta Memorial Hospital as well as several doctors offices in the area. She retired from Fairview Manor Nursing Home in Beverly after 32 years of service. She was a member of the Beverly United Methodist Church, lifetime member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit #389, Order of Eastern Star #506 and the Beta Chapter of OCCL in Beverly.

She was married Sept. 8, 1944 to Jack Ford Schweikert who died April 8, 2003.

She is survived by two daughters, Beth Lauer and husband Bruce of Beverly and Cindy Schwendeman and husband Jim of Lowell; two sons, Tom Schweikert and wife Tamme of Beverly and Don Schweikert of Taylorsville, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Matthew Lauer and wife Andrea of Corona Del Mar, Cal., Sarah Sautter and husband Tim of Westerville, Ohio, Michael Lauer and wife Kim of Westerville, Ohio, Ben Schweikert and Lili of Columbus, Nathan Schweikert and wife Mary Beth of Johnstown, Ohio, Adam Schwendeman and wife Abbey of Charleston, W.Va., Amy Schwendeman of Morgantown, W.Va. and Ellie Schwendeman of Lowell; seven great-grandchildren, Jack, Will, Henry, Nora, Brianna, Rowan and Kaitlyn; sister-in-law, Fern Schweikert of Rockwall, Texas and Linda Finkel of Florida; as well as many special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son, Jack Ford Schweikert II, daughter-in-law, Kathleen Schweikert; five brothers, Charles, Elmo, Clair, Harry and Noel Finkel, a sister, Janet Clark and an infant sister Narelle.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at the Beverly United Methodist Church with Pastor Matthew Weaver officiating. Burial will be in Beverly Cemetery. Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly and one hour before the service at the church.

Donations may be made to the Beverly-Waterford Food Pantry, American Legion Auxiliary (Toys for Children) or the Beverly United Methodist Church.
