Two promoted, one new hire at Career Center
Due to an end-of-the-year retirement of an employee, Rita Shrider, the Washington County Career Center administration was busy making transitions from within and hiring a new employee before school resumed after the New Year.
Barbara Tornes, an employee of the Career Center for the past 20 years, was promoted to Assistant to the Superintendent. Tornes began her tenure in 1993 working as the Office Manager in Adult Technical Training. In 1995, she transitioned to Assistant to the High School Director before accepting this latest promotion. Tornes lives in Marietta with her husband, Jim. She has two grown sons, Chris (Debra) of Dayton and Matt of Phoenix, Arizona, as well as three grandsons, Andrew, Alex, and Aaron.
Tina Duff has been employed with the Career Center for the past 19 years. She was promoted to Assistant to the High School Director. In 1994, Duff began her tenure working in Adult Technical Training performing the duties of secretary, fees, and assessment testing. In 2000, she transitioned to the position of Attendance in the high school. In 2006, Duff served two years as the Public Relations/Placement Secretary and, in 2008, became Secretary to the High School Assistant Director/Attendance. She lives in Marietta with her husband, Duane, and twin daughters, Hannah and Hayley.
Melinda White, a former employee of the Warren Local School District for the past 29 years, is the Career Center’s new Secretary to the High School Assistant Director/Attendance. Before coming on board, she served as the Secretary to the Principal at Warren Elementary School. White graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Secretarial Science from Washington County Technical College. She lives in Cutler with her husband, Bill, who is employed with Summit Environmental Services. They have a grown daughter, Brandy, of Columbus.
