Marietta residents can drop off Christmas trees until Jan. 20 at the following locations:
Indian Acres Park.
Greenleaf on Ohio 821 (stop at the Muskingum Drive retail store for a dump ticket).
‘Successful Start’ business seminar
The Ohio Small Business Development Center at Marietta and the Belpre Area Chamber of Commerce offer free, two-hour “Basis of a Successful Start” workshops that will answer questions about how to start a business. The January workshop will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 21 in the library on the Washington State Community College campus. The workshops are free and open to the public, but registration is required. Registration is accepted until noon the day before the event by calling 373-5150 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Free meal Thursday at Tunnel church
A free community meal will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Tunnel United Methodist Church, Ohio 550 and Coffman Road.
Dog tags on sale around the county
2014 dog tags will be sold at the following locations. The cost is $16 if purchased before Jan. 31 and $32 if purchased after Jan. 31.

Spaghetti dinner, square dance
A spaghetti dinner and square dance fundraiser to benefit the St. John Central Grade School will be at the Knights of Columbus hall in Churchtown Jan. 18. The dinner will be from 6 to 7 p.m. with the square dance from 7 to 10 p.m. There will be drawings to win cash, including a grand prize of $2,500, beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25. Children 12 and under are free with an adult ticket purchase. Student admission for those ages 13 to 18 is $5 at the door. To purchase a ticket for the event, call 896-2697.
