Bernard ‘Buck’ Murphy

Bernard “Buck” Murphy, 76, of Newport, Ohio, passed away (Jan. 13, 2014) at his residence.

He was born, May 5, 1937, in Newport, Ohio, a son of the late George and Mary Hoyt Murphy. He was a member of the Newport Baptist Church, where he served as trustee and managed the church’s sound system for many years. He enjoyed sharing God’s word through his gift of music playing lead guitar for the “Born Again Singing Grandmas.” Buck witnessed to many people throughout his life. He was retired from American Cyanamid with over 25 years as a welder. Throughout his life he enjoyed playing softball, golfing and watching his grandchildren play sports. He loved to work on cars and could fix anything. His family wants to remember him for his love of God, kindness and unconditional love for others.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judy Hoff Murphy; daughter, Debra (Fred) King of Paden City, W.Va.; son, Scott (Donna) Murphy of Newport, Ohio; grandchildren, Trista Murphy, Brittany King, fiance, Matt Levitt, Michael (Jenna) King, Seth (Meranda) Murphy, and Brandan Murphy; great-granddaughters, Khloe King, Lilaney Murphy, and Payton Murphy; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Ray Murphy; nine brothers and sisters, Betty Anderson, William Murphy, George Murphy, Emma Holland, Charles Murphy, Clarinda Smitley, Mark Murphy, Mary Lou Murphy, and Clark Murphy.

Services will be Saturday (Jan. 18, 2014) at 1 p.m. at Newport Baptist Church, Newport, Ohio. Interment will be in the Newport Cemetery, Newport, Ohio. Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, W.Va., and from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.
