Moore sparks MHS girls to 59-48 win over Vinton
Alle Moore scored eight of her game high 18 points in the final quarter as the Marietta Lady Tigers pulled away down the stretch to a 59-48 victory over the Vinton County Lady Vikings at Sutton Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.
Vinton County trailed by eight points heading to the final quarter but got back-to-back scores by Alexis Williams and Jalen Hale to trim the Tiger lead to 42-38 with a little more than five minutes to play.
Marietta answered when Lain Weppler sank a jumper with an assist from Taylor Smith before Moore and Starr Johnson added field goals to extend the lead to 48-38.
The Vikings got a triple from Megan Dixon to close within seven, but Moore scored the next six Tiger points and Smith and Lauren Martin sunk a pair of free throws apiece in the final minutes to clinch victory number 15 on the year for the Mark Hannuksela-led Tigers.
Joining Moore in double figures for the orange and black were Weppler with 13 and Smith with 11.
Michaela Puckett scored 16 of her team high 17 points in the opening half to pace the Lady Vikes while Dixon and Hale reached double figures with 14 and 11 points respectively.
The Tigers improved to 15-6 on the season with the win while VC dropped to 13-7 with the defeat.
