James I. Gessel

James I. Gessel, 84, of Marietta, passed away peacefully on Friday (Feb. 21, 2014)at his home. He was born Sept. 7, 1929, in Beverly, Ohio, to the late James David Gessel and Clara Hupp Gessel.

He worked for over 30 years as an auto body repairman and then later as the manager of the body shop department for Bob Bingler Ford Co. and Bill Dunning Motors where he retired in 1994. He played guitar in the square dance band “Dean and the Merry Makers” and other bands and he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his late wife and children.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 44 years, Tressie Gessel; son, Glenn Gessel; and two brothers, Robert and Clell Randolph.

He is survived by two sons, Jimmy (Debbie) Gessel of Marietta and Robby (Cathy) Gessel of Williamstown; two daughters, Gail (Ed) Boxler of Wildwood, Fla. and Violet Darlene Carpenter; and special friend, Chester Scott of Marietta; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nephews and nieces; and his furry best buddy, Fizzle.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday (Feb. 25) at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday after 2 with family present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com.
