OVU lecture series begins on April 6

VIENNA, W.Va. – Ohio Valley University will offer its 56th annual Lectureship Series from April 6-9 at the university’s main campus in Vienna.

Living in today’s world presents many challenges to faith. What message does the book of Hebrews have for us? What does God sending a perfect Jesus mean to us at a Christian university, in the Mid-Ohio Valley, in the northeastern quadrant of the United States?

This year’s theme Perseverance in Faith: Studies in Hebrews seeks to answer these questions.

For four days, attendees can learn from keynote speakers and participate in breakout sessions. The classes and lectures are free and open to the public. The keynote speakers for the series are: Dr. Harold Shank presenting Jesus: The One and Only; Bill Craddock presenting Jesus the Great High Priest (Hebrews 4:14-5:10); Steve Cloer presenting Melchizedeck (Hebrews 7:1-28); Willie Rupert Jr. presenting A New Covenant (Hebrews 8); Dion Frazier presenting The Significance of Faith (Hebrews 10:39-11:40); and Cody Balch presenting Concluding Exhortations (Hebrews 13).

There are several other featured speakers for topical sessions, including several speakers from OVU’s own leadership and faculty.

There are two special dinner opportunities. The PACE Dinner is Monday, April 7 at 4:30 p.m. in the OVU Roberts Chapel. Advanced registration is required and the cost is $12. Please contact Kim Haynes at 304.865.6003 or email kim.haynes@ovu.edu to register. The Lectureship Dinner is Tuesday, April 8, at 4:30 p.m. in the OVU Roberts Chapel. Cost for this dinner is $12 and tickets may be purchased on Monday, April 7, from Sharon Woomer at OVU’s front desk or at the registration table Monday evening.

Displays and representatives from the university and various brotherhood organizations will be present in the Alumni Gymnasium throughout the lectureship.

Immediately following the 2014 Lectureship series, OVU will host Barnabas Couples on April 9 and 10. The book of Acts tells how Barnabas encouraged other people. The event seeks to encourage young (under age 40) ministers and their spouses. OVU President and first lady, Harold and Sally Shank will host the event, drawing on their 36 years of experience in ministry.
