Warren’s field of dreams is coming, but first …

It’s a given that the Mid-Ohio Valley’s spring weather – lots of rain mixed in this year with some snow, wind and sometimes bone-chilling temperatures -can be challenging for sports teams.

This season poses special challenges for Warren’s baseball team. The Warriors are getting a makeover for their field, but as we all know it’s been rainy and the ground already was saturated from the winter snow. The field was unplayable.

So, the Warriors are playing a waiting game until the field can be redone by Hickory Valley Sod. The makeover, officials agree, is necessary. It’s just going to take time.

Fortunately, Warren has found surrounding schools are offering their fields to serve as the Warriors’ home away from home. Belpre, Federal Hocking and Waterford are all potential temporary home fields for Warren.

Meanwhile, the Warriors and their fans hope for some dry weather so work can be done on the new Warren diamond. Until the work is done, the Warriors will be playing whenever and wherever they can.

Ultimately, the team, like so many high school players and coaches, are just interested in playing their games. Thanks to diligent work by the Warren athletic department the games are being rescheduled and relocated so the Warriors play as many games as possible.

Warren and its fans know that down the road a brand new field will take shape soon on the WHS campus. Waiting is the hard part.
