Day of Prayer: Unity as a reality
For many years now, the first Thursday in May has been set aside as a day to invoke the help of a higher power for our communities, our state and our nation.
Today will mark the 63rd National Day of Prayer in the United States. On the national level, prayers will be led from 9 a.m. to noon from the Cannon Office Building in Washington, D.C. That event will be streamed live at nationaldayofprayer.org.
Locally, the National Day of Prayer has been recognized for the last 20 years. Ceremonies will take place at noon at the Washington County Courthouse in Marietta, the Williamstown City Building and Bicentennial Park in downtown Parkersburg, and at 7 p.m. at Fort Boreman Park.
The theme for this year’s event is One Voice, United in Prayer. The local ceremonies are non-denominational and a variety of churches and community leaders are expected to participate.
We hope you’ll join with friend and neighbors from around the Mid-Ohio Valley and residents from all parts of the United States in participating in a Day of Prayer activity.
