meeting tonight

Marietta High School boys soccer team will be having a brief call-out meeting for any athletes and their parents who will be entering grades 9-12 this fall and who are interested in participating in soccer at Marietta High School this fall. The meeting will be on Wednesday, May 7 at 6 p.m. in the Marietta High School cafeteria.

Herb Baseball Academy tryouts

Herb Baseball Academy is now taking registrations for their summer AAU 18U baseball team. This is open to all area players regardless of school district. Tryouts will be held May 24 and 25.

Fort Frye High School will hold an alumni baseball game on May 10 at 11 a.m. Cages open at 10 a.m.

The game will pit graduates of odd years against graduates of even years.

MHS cross country meeting May 31

All Marietta High School athletes who will be in grades 9-12 for fall 2014, and who plan to participate in fall cross country, are asked to attend a season training and information meeting 1 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at the Broughton Nature and Wildlife Area Pavilion. Summer training schedules will be distributed, together with training shirts. This is an important meeting for all student athletes who plan to participate in fall cross country.

The Broughton Pavilion is located adjacent to SR 821, 7/10ths mile north of SR 60.

MACTA Tennis

Can you hit a ball? Can you walk or run? Can do both at the same time? Are you interested in some “fun exercise?”

MACTA is ramping up its adult tennis season and is looking for new players. Those new to the game or returning to the game are welcome to join us. Come out and join in the fun.

North American Youth BB tourney

North American Youth Sports announced today that they still have several remaining openings in their annual summer regional youth basketball tournament in the Parkersburg area at Parkersburg South, as well as other area sites, on May 30-June 1.

The tournament will feature 10 different brackets, including boys and girls from grades 5-12. All grades are based on the grade in which a student is currently enrolled.

The entree fee for this tournament is $250 and guarantees each team a minimum of five games. There will be awards presented in each bracket. Those finishing first, second or third will automatically qualify for the NAYS National Championship tournaments in July. The entry deadline is May 9.

Volleyball camp at MHS in June

Coach K’s volleyball camp will be from June 5 to June 7 at MHS. Grades 3-5 (9a-10:30a)*($30 per camper); grades 6-8 (11a-2p); and grades 9-12 (2:30p-5:30p).

Cost is $65 ($50 each if more than one camper from same family).

Each camper will receiver free T-shirt.

Tickets for the Mid-Ohio Valley Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2014 Banquet to be held at the Grande Point Conference and Reception Center in Vienna, W. Va. on Saturday, June 14, at 6 p.m. are currently on sale.

Cost of tickets is $35 each. The deadline for purchasing tickets is June 1. There will be no ticket sales at the door.

Legends camp

The 21st annual Cincinnati Reds Legends Youth Baseball Clinic will be held in Marietta June 16-18 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.

This year’s scheduled attendees include Clay Carroll, Pokey Reese, Herm Winningham, Todd Benzinger, Eddie Milner, Reggie Sanders, Ron Oester, Leo Cardenas, Keith Brown and Stephen Larkin.

Golf scramble

in Sardis May 10

The Sardis Volunteer fire Department will be sponsoring its 3rd Annual Golf Scramble May 10 at the Fairway Riverside Golf Course in Sardis.

The 4 player better ball scramble will begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.

Cash prizes for the top three teams.

Door prizes, raffles, etc. $200 entry fee per team, which includes green fees, cart rental, breakfast items, lunch and tee shirt.

Marietta Tiger boys hoops camp

Marietta Tiger Boys Basketball camp for incoming grades 3,4,5,6 will be May 18-21 from 6-8:30 p.m. at Marietta High school.

Grades 7,8,9 will be June 1-4 from 6-8:30 p.m. at MHS. Registration forms are available at all the schools and Ketel one sports.
