Kent State University
Mindy Shears has been named to the dean’s list at Kent State University for her academic achievement during the spring 2014 semester. She is the daughter of Larry and Shari Shears, of Tunnel, and is a senior in the Public Health program. To be named to the dean’s list, full-time students must have achieved a grade point average of 3.40 or greater and must have completed 12 or more letter-graded credit hours.

DAYTON – Local students received degrees at the University of Dayton’s spring commencement.
Abigail Amrine of Marietta graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pre-Medicine
Rita Boggs of Little Hocking graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Education and Health Sciences degree in Early Childhood Leadership and Advocacy.
Colin Brockett, of Marietta, was one of 112 students who received a doctor of osteopathic medicine (D.O.) degree from Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, at the college’s May 10 commencement exercises.
The son of Michael and Amy Brockett of Marietta, Dr. Brockett earned a bachelor’s degree from Kent State University and is a 2005 graduate of Marietta High School. After graduation, Dr. Brockett will begin a residency in family medicine.
TIFFIN – McConnelsville native Baylee Garrett has announced that she will continue her academic and athletic careers at Heidelberg University. While enrolled at Heidelberg, Garrett plans to major in adolescent and young adult education with a minor in biology.
Garrett will join first-year head coach Ron Martin and the cross country and track and field team in the fall of 2014.
While at Morgan High School, Garrett was a scholar athlete all four years and named Freshman Athlete of the Year.
Garrett has enjoyed success in cross country and track and field for the Raiders. She was named an all-district performer twice and an All-Muskingum Valley League selection once as a member of the cross country team. In addition, Garrett received three all-district and three all-league honors as a member of the track and field squad.

TIFFIN – Heidelberg University has released the names of 288 students named to the spring semester dean’s list. Included on the list is David Wichterman, a junior psychology and anthropology major from Woodsfield.
According to Provost Dr. David Weininger, to be named to the dean’s list, students must be enrolled full time and meet academic criteria set forth by the university.
