VFW thanks senator for help with taxes

I would like to take the opportunity to publicly thank Senator Lou Gentile.

The Marietta Post of The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) #5108 has been at its current location on Pike Street in Marietta for more than 50 years and in existence since 1945. The Post has been paying taxes on various portions of its properties that are no longer required since the law exempted them in the summer of 2013. As a veterans’ organization, the Post leaders have worked to follow the appropriate processes to minimize its tax impacts since then, to no avail.

We invited State Senator Lou Gentile (D-30th District) to visit with Post members in March and he vowed to help. Within weeks of Senator Gentile’s visit, the Post received notice that our property tax burden would finally be lifted by the State of Ohio as portions of our properties would now be tax exempt.

We thank the Senator for his intervention and assistance that will allow Post members to focus more on assisting Washington County’s veterans and to giving back to the greater community.
