Belpre Music by the River begins Tuesday evening
Music by the River, sponsored by GFWC Belpre Woman’s Club, will begin its 25th year. The concert season begins June 3 and continues every Tuesday during June, July, and August at Civitan Park on Blennerhassett Avenue in Belpre. The concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. and are free to the public.
Tom and Carol Wriston, Classic Country Music, from Davisville, W.Va., will begin the 2014 concert season. Tom Wriston has been playing country and bluegrass music for over 50 years. He got his first guitar when he was 10 years old and his family lived in Kayford W.Va., a small coal-mining town located at the head of Cabin Creek.
He and his brother, Jim, formed a band in 1976 in Marietta, and over the next several years recorded two albums. They continued playing country music together until his brother’s death in 2006.
Today, he plays music with his wife, Carol, vocalist, and Harry Dye, bass guitar. The group plays songs of George Jones and Tammy Wynette, Porter Waggoner and Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash and June Carter, Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn, as well as their own singles.
Returning for the 2014 concert season are several favorites including Steve Sams as Elvis, Tall Grass (bluegrass), and the St. Marys Community Band. New to the Belpre stage is The Allye Tatledge Trio and RB3.
