Poppy Days supported by city proclamation

Marietta Mayor Joe Matthews declared May 23 and May 24 as Poppy Days in Marietta. The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 64 distributED poppies on Friday, May 24, and Saturday, May 25, at several local businesses located in the Marietta area.

The annual event pays tribute to those veterans who have died in service to our country. It also honors the millions of Americans who have willingly served their country in eight decades.

The poppy also honors the hospitalized and disabled veterans who make these red, hand-made flowers. It is never sold, but is given in exchange for a voluntary contribution. All proceeds from the distribution are used in local programs for the benefit of Veterans and their families.

“There is no better way to say thank you to a veteran than to wear a poppy as a reminder that we will always remember,” said Poppy Days Chairman Janet Brown, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 64.
