Teen makes World Championship shooting team
Lowell teen Michael Steinel recently earned a position on the International Shooting Sport Federation World Championship team by placing well in the Junior Olympics and the Rifle/Pistol National Championships held in Fort Benning, Ga. At the Olympic Training Center, 17-year-old Steinel shot at a 613.2 and a 614.7, both out of a possible 654. At the national championships in Fort Benning, he shot a 615.1 and a 613.3 out of a possible 654. Steinel’s total score beat out fourth place by one point. Later in July, Steinel will attend the American Legion 3 Position Air rifle National Championships at the Olympic Training Center, and will also spend two to three weeks working with the World Championship team and coaches. He leaves for the 2014 International Shooting Sport Federation World Championships in the beginning of September.
