Volunteer firfighter session offered

Anyone interested in information on becoming a volunteer firefighter in Ohio is invited to attend an informational session by Jerry Green, a volunteer firefighter and fire training instructor, that will include a question and answer session. It will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Room E118 in the main building of Washington State Community College, 710 Colegate Drive, Marietta.

Coop planning brief outage today

Washington Electric Cooperative has scheduled a brief power outage affecting approximately 150 members served by the Bartlett substation at 9 a.m. today. The affected area includes the circuit extending from the Bartlett substation to Creek Road and toward Palmer Square. The outage will last about 30 minutes so crews can re-energize power lines that had been back fed from the Watertown substation while road crews repaired a slip on Creek Road.

Beavertown church hosts annual sale

Parr Hill Community Church in Beavertown will hold its annual sale starting at 9 a.m. July 31-Aug. 2 at the old bait shop on Ohio 7.

FFA tug pull at fairgrounds

The Marietta FFA and Alumni Tug Pull will be held Saturday at the Washington County Fairgrounds. Signup starts at 9 a.m. and the pull starts at 10.

‘Insect Safari’ planned at refuge

The Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge will hold an “Insect Safari” program for children ages 5 to 14 at 10 a.m. Saturday. This program includes a hike, games and a craft. The program will be held at the Visitor Center located at 3982 Waverly Road in Williamstown. Closed toed shoes are strongly recommended. The program is free and approximately two hours long. Pancake breakfast to benefit ARC

The ARC of Washington County will hold its annual pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Franklin Street in Marietta. The menu will include pancakes, French toast, sausage, juice, milk and coffee. The price is a donation. Proceeds will be used to fund summer camp for students with special needs. There will also be a silent auction.
