Wirt County Fair continues through Saturday
ELIZABETH, W.Va. – The annual Wirt County Fair will continue through Saturday at Camp Barbe 4-H Camp along West Virginia 14 in Wirt County, featuring entertainment, activities, track events, carnival rides and other attractions.
The fair will run from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. today and Friday and from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $6 a person, with children ages 2 and under admitted free. Season tickets are $20.
Admission includes carnival rides and entertainment. Senior Citizens Day is today with admission at $3 for seniors until 6 p.m. The carnival hours will be 4 to 11 p.m. daily and on Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 11 p.m.
This year’s performers will include Johnny Staats and the Delivery Boys who will perform at 8 p.m. Thursday. Leading up to that performance will be performances by area bluegrass bands like No Guarantee, New Picture and The High Mountain Bluegrass.
Staats is a Sandyville resident who has received international attention for his mandolin skills, appearing in many music and entertainment publications and on various television shows, including six appearances on the Grand Ole Opry. His critically acclaimed first album was “Wires and Wood” and he also released a second one called “Wound For Sound.”
At the start of 2013, he completed and published a new album entitled “Time Moves On.” The title song is an original gospel song written by his father and most of the bluegrass and gospel songs on the CD were written by Staats along with his friends.
The final performance of the fair will feature 64 to Grayson at 8 p.m. Saturday.
The band’s lead singer is Zack Shelton, of Zanesville, who is the son of gospel musician Thomas Shelton and a graduate of Kentucky Christian University. He is joined in the band by Craig Cunningham, Tyler Corn and Tiffany Baker. The band released its album, “The Next Chapter,” in February 2014.
Opening for the band will be Austin Grimmett at 6:30 p.m. He was the winner of the 2013 Wirt County Fair Talent Show.
